I enjoyed your performance because it really gave me a good feeling on the inside! It also made me think a lot. — Jeremy Singer, student, Walnut Hills Elementary, Centennial

Our Best Stories

Available October 6th – December 16th, 2011

Literacy and Diversity Themes

Have you ever played in a football game where you ran the wrong way with the ball, slipped and had your shoe come off, and tackled your own teammate? One boy’s good-hearted look at his misadventures is among the 14 true stories and 6 songs in Our Best Stories.

Written by kids of different racial, socio-economic and geographic backgrounds, this play includes amusing tales of snowboarding, a ‘polar dip’, and an adventurous Halloween night. There are also stories relating the moving experiences of a girl living in a homeless shelter and one about a child who became disabled from a bout with cancer. Two bilingual kid-authors wrote stories utilizing both English and Spanish.

The performers animate the students’ work with power and perception, while maintaining the authenticity of their writing. Teachers keep raving about this play because it entertains, motivates and inspires kids to write!

“I loved how you used true, serious stories. My kids could not stop talking about the stories that touched their hearts.” –Marya Schrader, teacher, Sheridan Green Elementary
